How do you make the black flash transition on Sony Vegas Pro 8?

I always see people with the transitions in their videos when the screen flashes black for like 1 second and it automatically goes to next part. there are 16165165165161 ways to create a dark flash but i think the easiest one is to adding a brightness and contrast FX to your video and then setting keyframes were you want to have black flash and reducing brightness to 0 there. it is the easiest way to create a soft black flash. you can also put events close to each other (but not overlap them) and create fade in and fade outs.
