What's a reasonably priced lens for indoor sports shooting without using a flash?

For any of the entry level bodies. What's a reasonably priced lens for indoor sports shooting without using a flash?
For Canon :

If you are able to get close to the action (if you are shooting high school or youth sports), you can get away with a Canon 85 mm f/1.8 (which you can buy used for about $250) or a Canon 100 mm 2.0 telephoto (new about $350). These are both fast lenses that do well indoors for basketball/volleyball when you can get courtside. What's a reasonably priced lens for indoor sports shooting without using a flash?
You might check Tamron or Sigma. You'll need a fast one, minimum f2.8, and if its a zoom it should ideally be a constant f2.8 across the entire zoom range. Image Stabilization would be a definite plus. Plan on spending some major $$$.
Unfortunately, the only reasonable price you will find is buying a used 400mm f/2.8 lens. Reasonable is a relative term.

If you consider $4,500 reasonable when compared to a new $6,000 lens, then yes.

BTW stick with Nikon or Canon lenses ... at 5 fps, the aperture leaves will be getting a workout day after day. Third party lenses will eventually fail.
