How does one created a UNIX/LINUX boot disc on a USB flash disc?

What size would one need? Thank you for your assistance. How does one created a UNIX/LINUX boot disc on a USB flash disc?
Several of the main distros can be booted from a USB stick - Ubuntu can be used on a 1mb stick and Mandrake for instance can either be installed yourself onto a 4Gb stick or you can buy it already setup if you wish (its better to do it yourself though in my opinion). Make sure your computer is capable of booting from USB though first otherwise its a little pointless! There are ways round it by using floppy boot disks with USB drivers enabled but they are messy. Ubuntu is certainly the easiest and there is plenty of support through their community, including for setting up to boot from a USB stick - www.ubuntu.comHow does one created a UNIX/LINUX boot disc on a USB flash disc?

For the major distro's you can just install it to the USB device like a regular drive, then select BOOT for USB device in the bios.

Im not 100% positive but about 90% sure you have to burn their boot discs to CD, go to Linux's website and they walk you through it.
