Is Flash Memory different in an MP3 Player?

I've owned an IPOD mini for the last few years. I've always been under the impression that 4 GB = 1,000 songs. I just received an MP3 player as a gift. The features list it as having a 1,000 song capacity. Yet, it only has a 2 GB capacity. It is a flash memory, however. Is this different, somehow? Is Flash Memory different in an MP3 Player?
flash memory is a light-weight memory. a 30gb wouldnt be in the flash category, instead, it`ll be in the hard drive category. get itè„¡

lol. you can do that though, 2gb=1000 songs. i have a 1gb ipod nano and in the box it says 240 songs but i managed to store 300+ songs because i compressed em. but in reality, if you dont compress files like mp3 (which is of higher quality than .wma from audio cds), then it isnt possible to store 1000 songs in 2gb.

hope this helped. Is Flash Memory different in an MP3 Player?
The iPod Nano use flash memory to store the songs. The storage capacity depends on the size of the mp3 files, you'll notice that the ones with higher bit rates will be larger files for the same playing time. So if someone claims a 1000 song capacity on a 2 Gig player then they are using different file format, bit rate. I've got 2200 songs which take up 11 Gigbytes on my video ipod, but I use a higher bit rate when I transcode mp3s.
only slightly as flash starts wih fls and mp3 starts with, well you get the idea
