Whats the difference between a flash drive and a sd card?

I want to buy something to store important info while I reboot my comuter. And I want to keep some file on a back up type of sd card or flash drive. I dont reall know the difference between them and I would like some info on that subject before I buy one. I want like 8 gb of storage space.Whats the difference between a flash drive and a sd card?
